The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is making waves across India. On June 1, 2025, the campaign reached Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on its fourth day. The initiative aims to empower over 1.5 crore farmers by providing them with modern and sustainable farming practices.
During his visit to Dabhthuwa village, Minister Chouhan engaged directly with farmers. He held an informal discussion in Jangethi village, sitting on a traditional cot. Here, he stressed the importance of connecting with farmers and understanding their challenges. This grassroots approach is designed to promote advanced farming practices that can enhance productivity and reduce costs.
The main goals of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan include increasing agricultural production, ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce, and minimizing post-harvest losses. Chouhan emphasized these objectives while speaking to the media. He highlighted that the campaign is not just about policy but about real conversations with farmers to shape effective agricultural solutions.
Launched on May 29, 2025, from Odisha, this ambitious campaign will cover nearly 20 states over 15 days. More than 16,000 agricultural scientists and experts are part of this initiative, visiting two villages daily to provide tailored advice. The outreach is extensive, aiming to impact over 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts.
The campaign involves a network of 2,170 expert teams from various agricultural institutions, including Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Farmer Producer Organizations. Each team consists of at least four members who will visit over 65,000 villages. They hold multiple sessions every day on vital topics such as crop selection, seed improvement, soil management, natural farming, and the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds.
In Meerut, farmers participated in discussions about improved cultivation methods and crop diversification. These conversations help farmers adapt to local conditions and challenges. The campaign also promotes awareness of government schemes designed to support marginal farmers, especially in remote regions.
