Swaraj Tractors, part of the Mahindra Group, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the Bhamashah Award from the Government of Rajasthan. This award recognises the division’s impactful work in community development during the financial year 2024-25. The focus of these efforts has been on improving government schools in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. Through the installation of rooftop rainwater harvesting systems, Swaraj has made a positive impact on education and health in the region.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Sarv Mangal Gramin Vikas Sansthan. It aimed to enhance sustainable development in rural areas, particularly by addressing issues related to water scarcity and fluoride contamination. The program encompassed 78 villages, 20 blocks, and 8 districts. Its primary goals included increasing access to clean drinking water for both communities and livestock, and facilitating irrigation for local agriculture.
As part of the program, Swaraj renovated 18 traditional water bodies, generating approximately 3.72 million cubic metres of water. Additionally, rainwater harvesting systems have been installed in 57 government schools, providing over 5.7 million litres of clean water for students. This initiative directly benefits more than 48,000 individuals, around 37,000 livestock, and over 3,000 hectares of farmland.
The Bhamashah Award highlights Swaraj Division’s commitment to long-term rural development. The company is dedicated to creating resilient and self-reliant communities across India. The spokesperson for Swaraj stated, “This honour reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainable development and our proactive approach in addressing critical issues such as water scarcity.”
Since its inception, the initiative has significantly improved health and education for many students. It has also helped reduce water transportation costs for schools, saving over INR 12.8 lakhs annually. The efforts to combat groundwater depletion have been ongoing since 2020, focusing on rehabilitating traditional water ponds in underprivileged areas.
Swaraj is not just a tractor company; it is a participant in India’s rural development process. The integration of sustainability with social responsibility is at the core of their initiatives. By linking these two aspects, Swaraj continues to play a vital role in building better rural communities.
In conclusion, the Bhamashah Award serves as a testament to the positive changes brought about by Swaraj Division. Their initiatives are paving the way for a brighter future in rural Rajasthan, showing how corporate efforts can lead to meaningful social change. As they move forward, Swaraj aims to further enhance its contributions to rural livelihoods and community welfare, demonstrating that companies can indeed make a difference in society.
