Heavy Rainfall Alert for Multiple States This Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several states in India as intense monsoon systems are expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall this week. Central, East, West, and Northwest India will be the most affected areas. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also forecasted.

From July 8 to July 10, many regions will experience heavy rainfall. For Telangana, the IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts, with heavy rains expected. The department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds until July 10.

In Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, heavy rainfall is likely until July 7. Eastern states like Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Jharkhand are also expected to receive very heavy showers. Coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat should prepare for significant rainfall during this period.

The weather agency has warned of the risk of flooding in central India, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the IMD Director General, has urged residents to stay cautious and monitor river catchment areas like the Godavari, Mahanadi, and Krishna.

In Uttarakhand, a high-alert landslide warning has been issued for districts such as Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. Rain is expected to increase the risk of landslides and road blockages. Flash flood warnings have also been issued for 12 districts in Jharkhand, where moderate to heavy rainfall is occurring.

Delhi experienced light rainfall, providing some relief from the heat. However, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall for the next two hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The Air Quality Index in Delhi has improved, remaining in the ‘satisfactory’ category for the past 12 days.

In Odisha, heavy rainfall has led to water logging in certain areas, and the state government has mobilized disaster response teams to ensure safety. Significant rainfall is expected along the western coast, affecting the livelihoods of fishermen, prompting warnings against venturing into the sea.

In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rainfall has disrupted many roads, and authorities are working to clear debris. The situation remains critical, as cloudbursts and floods have washed away important infrastructure.

With heavy rainfall predicted across various states, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions. Authorities are working hard to manage the situation and keep communities safe.

Stay tuned for further updates as the IMD monitors the weather closely and provides real-time information.
