Bayer Launches BICOTA to Combat Stem Borers in Paddy

Mumbai, June 07th, 2025: Bayer, a leading global company in agriculture and healthcare, has launched a new product called BICOTA. This product is designed to help rice farmers manage stem borer pests effectively. Stem borers are insects that can cause significant damage to rice crops, leading to lower yields and affecting farmers’ incomes. BICOTA combines Bayer’s innovative technology to provide strong protection against these damaging pests.

The launch of BICOTA is an important step for Bayer as it expands its agricultural offerings in key rice-growing regions of India, including Punjab and Haryana. This product will be available in June 2025 across 11 states in India. Bayer promises superior crop protection benefits, ensuring longer-lasting defense with just a single application. This not only helps protect the crop but also promotes better root and tiller growth compared to other existing products.

Mohan Babu, Bayer’s COO for India’s Crop Science Division, shared that the company is committed to simplifying farmers’ lives through innovation. BICOTA is formulated as a user-friendly granular application. It is also compatible with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, which are essential for sustainable farming practices.

Rice farmers in India face many challenges throughout the crop lifecycle. They often deal with poor-quality seeds, environmental stresses, and various pests and diseases that threaten their harvest. Bayer has been working closely with Indian rice farmers to provide advanced solutions that help them overcome these challenges. Their products include seeds that can deliver up to 30% higher yields and effective insecticides and herbicides that control a wide range of pests and diseases.

BICOTA is part of Bayer’s broader effort to support farmers in achieving better yields and improving their farm incomes. The product not only protects the rice plants but also optimizes their inherent yield potential. Bayer’s extensive portfolio includes various solutions for rice farmers, including hybrid rice seeds known as Arize™, which are proven to yield consistently higher than traditional varieties.

In addition to pest protection, Bayer offers innovative seed treatment products like Reatis, which controls pests like early stem borer and leaf folder in rice and corn crops. This seed treatment helps farmers by reducing the need for multiple sprays throughout the crop lifecycle, thus saving both time and resources.

With BICOTA, Bayer aims to provide rice farmers with the tools they need to improve their crop health and, ultimately, their financial returns. The company is also developing hybrid rice varieties that can withstand diseases and adverse weather conditions, further enhancing the resilience of rice farming in India.

Farmers can look forward to BICOTA and other Bayer products that are designed to support their farming needs. By adopting these innovative solutions, farmers can improve their crop yields and secure better livelihoods. Bayer continues to focus on research and development to bring more effective solutions to the market, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of agricultural innovation.

In conclusion, the launch of BICOTA marks a significant advancement in pest management for rice farmers in India. With Bayer’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, farmers can expect improved protection for their crops, leading to richer harvests and enhanced income.
