Weather Update: Heavy Rains and Heatwave Conditions Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather update. Active monsoon conditions are expected in southern and northeastern India. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecasted in several regions. This change in weather is expected to start from June 10, 2025. The IMD predicts isolated heavy downpours over South Peninsular India, the west coast, and northeastern states. From June 13, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Karnataka and Kerala.

Meanwhile, parts of northwest India are still facing heatwave conditions. Severe heat is expected in western Rajasthan between June 8 and 11. Other areas in northwest India will also experience heat, except for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The IMD warns that heatwave conditions will persist for the next four days.

From June 11 to 14, thunderstorms with wind speeds of up to 50 km/h are likely over Uttarakhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Strong winds are predicted in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh during this period.

Heavy showers are also forecasted in Uttarakhand from June 12 to 14. Western Rajasthan may experience dust storms, while Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh are likely to face dusty winds between June 8 and 10.

From June 10 to 14, intense rainfall is anticipated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. The states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could see heavy downpours with winds blowing at 30 to 40 km/h during this time.

In the next week, heavy rain is expected in Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may also experience rainfall with strong winds until June 12.

The IMD warns residents in these areas to prepare for potential disruptions due to heavy rainfall. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the Arabian Sea and several other coastal areas due to safety concerns.

The weather department has also highlighted the effects of the Southwest Monsoon. A fresh ‘red’ alert has been issued for Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. An orange alert is in place for Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Mumbai recently experienced heavy rains, marking the earliest onset of the monsoon in 75 years. The IMD added that a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, which will impact weather conditions in Odisha.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely. Safety should be a priority during this unpredictable weather period. Be prepared for heavy rainfall and heatwave conditions across various states in India.
