The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several regions in India as the monsoon strengthens. Areas such as Delhi-NCR, Central India, and the Western coast are expected to experience significant rain over the next week.

In Delhi-NCR, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are predicted. A yellow alert was issued for the capital on June 20, forecasting wet weather until June 23. Wind speeds could reach 30-40 km/h, especially during the night. The rainfall is expected to cool down temperatures, with maximums dropping to between 36-38 degrees Celsius and minimums around 26.8 degrees Celsius.

The IMD expects cloudy skies to continue in Delhi, with thunderstorms and lightning likely from June 20 to June 23. Gusty winds may reach up to 50 km/h during thunderstorms. The IMD has cautioned residents about the dangers posed by lightning, advising them to avoid outdoor activities during storms and unplug electrical devices to prevent damage.

Mumbai is also under an orange alert for heavy rain on June 20. Persistent showers and overcast skies are expected throughout the week. Pune is forecasted to receive intense rainfall as well. In Gujarat, cities like Ahmedabad are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain on June 20.

The southwest monsoon has advanced further, covering areas in Northwest and Central India. It now includes parts of the North Arabian Sea, the rest of Gujarat, sections of Rajasthan, more areas of Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and parts of Bihar.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, leading to an orange alert in these areas for the next two days. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather is likely in isolated areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during severe weather conditions to ensure their safety. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as necessary. It is important for people to remain informed about local weather warnings and to prepare for possible disruptions to travel and daily activities due to the storms.

The approaching rainy season is crucial for agriculture, as it replenishes water sources and supports crop growth. However, heavy rainfall can also lead to flooding and damage to crops, so farmers should monitor weather reports closely and take necessary precautions to protect their fields.

In summary, the IMD’s forecast emphasizes the need for caution as heavy rain and thunderstorms approach many states. Residents should stay informed and prioritize safety during this monsoon season.
