PM Modi Launches Major Development Projects in Bihar

On May 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Karakat, Bihar. This event marked a significant step towards boosting the economic growth of the state. The Prime Minister was welcomed warmly by the people, showing their support and enthusiasm. The aim of these projects is to enhance irrigation facilities and improve connectivity across Bihar.

In his address, PM Modi emphasized the importance of self-reliance and technology, stating that these elements are crucial for transforming agriculture in Bihar. He highlighted the government’s commitment to uplift the lives of farmers. More than 75 lakh farmers in Bihar currently benefit from the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which provides financial aid to support their livelihoods.

A notable announcement during the event was the formation of a Makhana Board. The Makhana, which now has a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, is gaining popularity not just in India but globally. This initiative is expected to boost farmers’ incomes significantly. In addition, PM Modi revealed plans for a National Institute for Food Processing in Bihar, as part of the 2025 Union Budget. This institute will enhance value addition in agricultural products, further benefiting farmers.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the Cabinet’s recent approval to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops, including paddy. This increase will directly benefit farmers across the country, ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce. Furthermore, he highlighted Bihar’s progress in renewable energy, including a solar park in Kajra and support for solar-powered agricultural feeders under the PM-KUSUM scheme. These initiatives allow farmers to generate their own electricity, reducing costs and improving productivity.

PM Modi stressed that these developments in agriculture and rural areas are empowering small industries and connecting villages to national and international markets. He recalled the Bihar Business Summit, where several companies expressed their intention to invest in the state, creating new job opportunities and reducing the need for labour migration. Improved transport infrastructure is another key focus, helping farmers access wider markets and enhancing their profitability.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is another initiative aimed at empowering farmers with modern agricultural technologies and advanced seed varieties. This will help increase productivity and ensure food security for the region.

In addition to agricultural development, PM Modi highlighted infrastructure improvements. He inaugurated the new terminal at Patna Airport and announced ongoing investments in Bihta Airport. He mentioned that world-class Vande Bharat trains are now operational in Bihar, and railway tracks are being expanded to boost connectivity across key districts. New roads and bridges over major rivers like the Ganga, Son, Gandak, and Kosi are being rapidly developed to enhance transportation and economic growth.

Addressing national security, PM Modi spoke about recent efforts to eliminate terrorist threats under “Operation Sindoor.” He noted that the number of Naxal-affected districts in India has significantly reduced due to continuous government efforts. This transformation has improved access to basic services like roads, schools, and healthcare in previously isolated areas.

Concluding his speech, PM Modi emphasized the importance of welfare programs like ‘Lakhpati Didi’, which empower women economically. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to provide free ration and medical treatment to ensure security for the poor and elderly.

This event marks a critical moment for Bihar, as it aims to bring positive changes in agriculture, infrastructure, and overall development, benefiting millions of people in the state.
