Financial Aid for Onion Farmers in Gujarat

The Gujarat government has announced a new financial aid plan for onion farmers. This initiative will provide Rs 200 per quintal of onions sold. The scheme aims to support farmers facing low market prices. The aid is part of the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme. It is designed to help farmers during tough times.

Approximately Rs 124.36 crore has been allocated for this scheme. It is expected that around 90,000 farmers will benefit from this initiative. Under the scheme, farmers can receive assistance for a maximum of 250 quintals, which equals 25,000 kg of onions. The total aid can reach up to Rs 50,000 per farmer.

Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel made the announcement. He stated that onion production in Gujarat has increased this year. This year’s production is estimated at 248.70 lakh quintals. However, the prices have dropped below the cost of production. This has caused concern among farmers.

The aid will support farmers who sold their onions in Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) from April 1 to May 31, 2025. The scheme is part of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) of the Government of India. The government is responding to the requests of farmers and farmer organisations for support amid falling prices.

To apply for this financial aid, eligible farmers must visit the i-Khedut 2.0 portal. The application process will be open from July 1 to 15, 2025. The i-Khedut portal provides various services for farmers in Gujarat. It is designed to ease the application process for different government schemes.

Farmers can check the status of their applications on the i-Khedut portal. The portal also offers information about market prices and weather reports. This helps farmers make informed decisions about their crops. The online system aims to reduce paperwork and increase transparency in government support.

Farmers need to follow a simple process to register on the i-Khedut portal. First, they must visit the official website. Then, they should select the schemes option. After that, they can choose the scheme they want to apply for. If they are already registered, they can log in using their Aadhaar number and mobile number. The Gujarat government’s support for onion farmers is a timely intervention. It comes at a time when farmers are struggling with low prices. This financial assistance will help them cope with the current market situation. By providing this aid, the government aims to ensure the sustainability of onion farming in the state.

Farmers are encouraged to register on the i-Khedut portal and apply for this aid. This support will help them during challenging times. The government is committed to improving the livelihoods of farmers in Gujarat.

In conclusion, the Rs 200 per quintal aid for onion farmers will provide much-needed support. With the current market challenges, this initiative is a step towards ensuring financial stability for farmers. The i-Khedut portal is a valuable tool for farmers to access government schemes and support. We hope that eligible farmers take advantage of this opportunity to apply for the aid they deserve.
