Inspiring Journey of Sukhjeet Singh: Turning 72 Acres into a Successful Organic Venture

Sukhjeet Singh is a remarkable organic farmer from Sirsa, Haryana. He has turned his 72 acres of land into a thriving business, generating Rs. 60 lakh annually. Sukhjeet sells over 35 organic products such as atta, dal, mustard oil, and fresh vegetables. His brand, Sirsa Natural Farms, allows him to connect directly with urban consumers and online platforms.

Sukhjeet’s journey began in a modest farming family. He grew up watching his parents work hard to cultivate crops like wheat and mustard. However, they faced financial challenges despite their efforts. After finishing his education, Sukhjeet chose to continue in agriculture instead of pursuing a different career. He wanted to show that farming could be profitable and respected.

In 2015, Sukhjeet started learning about organic farming. He attended training sessions at Krishi Vigyan Kendra and participated in agricultural fairs. He understood the harmful effects of chemicals on soil and health. This motivated him to stop using synthetic inputs and adopt organic methods.

The initial phase was tough. Sukhjeet faced lower yields and criticism from friends. But he persevered. He started making his own vermicompost and organic pesticides from local materials. Over time, the soil improved, and the quality of his produce increased. Consumers began to appreciate the rich taste of his products.

Sukhjeet believes in integrated farming. He keeps two cows and two buffaloes on his farm. The milk is primarily for his family, but he sells excess milk in the village. He uses cow urine and dung to create organic fertilizers, which has reduced his costs and improved soil fertility. He considers his animals part of the family and the farming cycle.

In 2018, Sukhjeet took a big step by registering his Farmer Producer Company (FPO) called Acrefarm. This move allowed him to process, pack, and brand his organic products. With growing demand, he began selling directly to consumers in cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Punjab. He also utilized social media and online platforms to reach a wider audience.

Today, Sukhjeet’s business has a turnover of 50–60 lakh every year. His success has also created job opportunities for 12 rural youths and inspired over 600 farmers in the region to adopt organic farming methods.

Sukhjeet’s work has earned him recognition and awards. He feels proud when fellow farmers tell him they started organic farming because of his influence. Recently, he joined the Global Farmer Business Network (GFBN), which supports agripreneurs. Through GFBN, Sukhjeet shares his knowledge and helps other farmers build successful organic businesses.

Looking ahead, Sukhjeet aims to create a solar-powered processing unit and build cold storage facilities for perishable goods. He also plans to establish a training center for young, aspiring organic farmers. Despite his achievements, Sukhjeet remains grounded. He spends time in his fields daily and interacts with local farmer groups. He believes the future of Indian agriculture lies in nature-based farming, community learning, and direct market access.

Sukhjeet says, “Agriculture has given me everything: identity, income, and peace. If we treat the land with respect, it will give back to us.”

His story is not just about personal success. It highlights how he has restored faith in agriculture, empowered rural youth, and shown that farmers can also be entrepreneurs. Sukhjeet Singh’s journey is a true inspiration for many, proving that dedication and innovative thinking can transform challenges into opportunities in agriculture.
