Today, he is the founder of Mayank Aquaculture, a successful shrimp farming enterprise worth Rs. 100 crores. Dr. Sharma has 18 years of experience in shrimp farming. He started his journey in Surat, Gujarat, where shrimp farming was not popular. In 1996, he began with just four ponds in Dandi village. His innovative techniques and sustainable practices have since expanded Mayank Aquaculture to cover 200 hectares, producing 1,000 metric tons of shrimp annually.
Under Dr. Sharma’s leadership, Mayank Aquaculture has helped create over 150,000 jobs in coastal communities. His work has sparked a blue revolution in Surat, promoting sustainable practices among local farmers through the Surat Aquaculture Farmers Association (SAFA), which he co-founded.
One of his key innovations is the concept of satellite shrimp farming. This approach has significantly increased shrimp production in Gujarat. Dr. Sharma has also demonstrated successful cage culture projects, inspiring local fishermen to adopt new techniques.
Shrimp farming has emerged as a vital industry in India. The country exports 95% of its shrimp, generating export earnings of Rs. 6,500 crores. With the Indian government encouraging shrimp farming, Dr. Sharma is at the forefront of this transformation. His dedication to sustainability and innovation is setting new standards in the industry.
Dr. Sharma’s commitment to quality has led to the development of the ‘VIVALINE’ product line, focusing on preventing diseases in shrimp. This initiative has further strengthened the shrimp farming industry.
His efforts have earned him numerous awards, including the Best BW Shrimp/Fish Farmer award from the National Fisheries Development Board and recognition from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
